“Twenty years ago my husband and I had a dream,” Nancy Jackson told me.

The dream that Regis and Nancy Jackson had all those years ago has come to fruition in Graham. The Jacksons’ are the proud owners of Pet Ponderosa Resort and Spas, a dude ranch for your pets.

Nancy and Regis lived in Cleveland, Ohio when they began the pursuit of their dream. Neither had any experience in the animal care arena but they forged ahead. They began by educating themselves on the ever-growing business of pet care. They visited and contacted kennels all over the country to determine what constituted a successful pet care facility with a returning clientele.

Eight years ago the Jackson family found themselves in the Pacific Northwest after a job transfer for Regis. Regis is working in Tacoma while Nancy manages the ranch.

Last February the Jackson’s purchased five acres in Graham. Although the property had been used as a kennel previously, it required massive reconstruction; trees had to be removed, buildings had to be gutted or rebuilt. While some work remains the facility is open for business.

Nancy proudly gave me a tour and explained the various services they provide. Pet Ponderosa offers cat condos, doggie daycare, dog obedience classes, custom kennels which eliminate cross-contamination, family runs which house 4+ dogs, a totally enclosed heated indoor kennel area, and brand new cedar runs. To provide socialization each animal is handled personally at least four times a day as they are taken out to the large runs.

Pet Ponderosa also offers full service grooming. Sarah Zenkner formerly with Pet Pruners in Eatonville will provide this service. Sarah brings several years of grooming experience to her new location. Nancy said she feels fortunate to have Sarah on her staff.

For those of us who cannot travel comfortably until we know our beloved pets are safe and secure, Pet Ponderosa will be a tremendous benefit.
